Indian Startup Develops AI-Enabled Wellness Band for Elderly Care
Pune-based health-tech startup Bitwell has introduced an AI-enabled wellness band designed specifically for senior citizens, aiming to make elderly healthcare monitoring simpler and more proactive for families living away from their parents.
Founded by Harsh Vardhan Singh and Sumit Dhakad, Bitwell focuses on monitoring heart rate, oxygen levels, movement activity, and emergency situations through a lightweight, screenless wearable device designed for ease of use among seniors. The idea for Bitwell came from a personal experience. Co-founder Harsh Vardhan Singh was working in a high-paying job in Paris when his mother fell on the stairs while she was alone at home in India. The incident highlighted the challenges families face when living away from elderly parents, leading him to return to India and build Bitwell.
One of the key features of the band is its fall detection sensor, which alerts connected family members in case of a fall or unusual inactivity. The device also includes proprietary mobility and stability metrics that track movement patterns and periods of inactivity to help families monitor overall well-being.
Unlike conventional smartwatches with complex interfaces, Bitwell has been designed as a simple, screenless device that is comfortable and easy for senior citizens to use daily.
With India’s elderly population growing rapidly, Bitwell aims to bridge the gap between healthcare, safety, and peace of mind through AI-powered preventive wellness solutions.
